The Zimmer lab is currently seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study bacterial encapsulation. An area of particular interest is the biosynthesis and secretion of capsular polysaccharides. The research will involve expression and purification of the polysaccharide secretion apparatus for detailed structural analyses using cryogenic electron and super-resolution fluorescence microscopy approaches. The incumbent will join a dynamic and international team focused on studying cell surface remodeling in various model systems. 

The successful candidate will work independently while also thriving in a collaborative environment. Strong expertise in molecular biology is a prerequisite, along with a minimum of one first author peer-reviewed publication. Expertise in cryo EM and/or fluorescent microscopy is advantageous but not required.

Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years1 and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training period.
