Research Associate in Civil and Environmental Engineering

Job Description


The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks candidates for Postdoctoral Research Associate positions to work with Professor Osman E. Ozbulut and Professor Lisa Colosi Peterson.

Professor Ozbulut is the director of the Resilient and Advanced Infrastructure Laboratory (RAIL), which aims to formulate innovations in design, materials and sensing technologies to advance a new generation of infrastructure systems. Professor Peterson is founding co-director the UVA Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) Lab and director of the UVA Decarbonization Academy. Her research focuses on application of systems analysis tools, principally LCA and techno-economic assessment (TEA) to evaluate water-energy-climate impacts of infrastructure systems.

We seek candidates for work on a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)-funded research related to the use of calcined clay in concrete materials in Virginia as an alternative to conventionally used supplementary cementitious materials.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must have a PhD degree in a civil engineering by the time of the appointment.  Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in experimental testing of concrete, multi-scale materials characterization, and life cycle analysis. A strong publication record and experiences are preferred. Successful candidates will work directly with the PIs and also assist graduate students in the lab.
