JOB SUMMARY:
The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in conducting studies of plasma and cellular proteins related to thrombosis and hemostasis in support of the clinical, research and surveillance projects. Also the incumbent must have specialized knowledge of techniques used to study coagulation proteins and platelet proteins, both functionally and immunologically. 

DUTIES:

"As a Research Biologist you will: Research projects, studies or broad areas of concern that entail complicating and interacting factors, concepts, or conditions. Conduct analysis of results and prepare summary technical reports related to the identification of biochemical alterations responsible for events correlated with bleeding and clotting disorders. Assist in developing, refining, standardizing, and conducting in vivo and in vitro coagulation and platelet studies for research and clinical purposes. Evaluate new commercial research kits applied in the laboratory, ensuring applicability of kits to current protocols and assuring quality through comparative statistical data analysis. Develop and implement the use of protocols for performance of tests and evaluation of results." 


REQUIREMENTS:
US Citizenship is required. Background Investigation is required. Promotion to the next grade level is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied. Supervisory position: No Time in grade (TIG) must be met within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Basic Qualifications:
Successfully completed 4-years of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. or Combination of education and experience-- Courses equivalent to a major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications for GS-11: 
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in clinical or research laboratory collecting and preparing specialized and non-routine tests in special coagulation; analyzing test problems, and recommending solutions to overcome them. Minimum Qualifications for GS-12: 
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in clinical or research laboratory performing and interpreting non-routine laboratory serologic tests in special coagulation; experience with automated coagulation instruments; reviewing, analyzing and troubleshoot testing problems. Substitution of Education for Experience for GS-11: 
Master's or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the duties of the position. Substitution of Education for Experience for GS-12: 
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
