Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business is seeking a Coordinator for the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets. The Ed Snider Center engages in world­class interdisciplinary research that fosters our understanding of the kind of institutions that promote innovation and enterprise. The Center engages in public outreach through teaching, programs, events, and media and is committed to sharing its knowledge with the scholarly community, current and prospective students, business leaders, and the public at large.

Reporting to the Managing Director of the Ed Snider Center, the Coordinator will work to manage the operations of the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. The Coordinator will perform critical administrative, outreach, budgetary, and marketing communications functions to support the Center’s programs, events, grant activities, and faculty development/research opportunities.

Superior organization, communication and presentation skills are critical, as is a desire to learn, grow, and strive for improvement in every area of work being done. Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a creative problem solver with an ability to think in terms of and assist in the creation of procedures, processes, and systems. The Coordinator must be responsive to multiple other Directors and staff at the Center and possess strong customer service values with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Ability to organize data, manage information and present clear, concise reports is critical to success. Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends as program delivery requires.

The Coordinator will be responsible for administrative and financial duties in support of various Ed Snider Center projects including but not limited to: Liaising with the Office of Finance & Accounting for the processing of vendor invoices and expense tracking; travel arrangements and equipment and supply purchases for the Center; processing of receipts and related record keeping and reporting (periodic budget reconciliation/purchase card and travel card reconciliation); proactively communicating with Payroll and Human Resource and Scholarship staff in other units to process paperwork; collaborating with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations as well as other offices across campus—such as the Office of Research Administration, Sponsored Programs Accounting & Compliance, and Procurement and Business Services—to keep track of and help process internal scholarships and donor support or to assist in processing required documents prior to certain purchases; and liaising with the Principal Investigators of the Center’s grants to assist with general inquiries.

Additional duties will include event planning, relationship management, grant reporting, and other duties as they relate to ensuring the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets is operating effectively. The incumbent will represent Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets through e­mails, telephone calls, and in-person and virtual meetings with internal and external constituencies as necessary.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2­- 3 years of related, professional experience in administration required. Professional experience includes budget management, event management, marketing/communications, project management, website management, and/or student services, or related.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles.
  • High level of expertise in Excel.
  • ­Ability to manage assigned projects and work independently.
  • ­Excellent communication skills.
  • ­Excellent organizational and analytical skills with strict attention to detail.
  • ­Excellent project management skills.
  • ­Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Google Drive and Productivity Applications
  • ­Proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • ­Proven ability to plan ahead, make effective use of time, and coordinate multiple projects at once.
  • ­Willingness to work extended and flexible hours in support of school priorities.
  • ­Friendly, flexible, service-oriented manner.
  • ­High level of enthusiasm for and commitment to the University of Maryland, the Smith School, and the mission of the Ed Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets.

Physical Demands

Most work done in an office and educational setting, sitting or standing at a desk. Occasionally moves small boxes, office equipment and presentation equipment, and frequently collects mail for office. Ability to move 20 pounds by carrying or using a rolling cart. Occasionally required to walk up to ½ mile across campus to assist with program setup in a different building.
