General Description of the Position

The Post-doctoral Associate will work closely with the director of the Cell Electrophysiology Core to develop and carry out a research program of electrophysiology in tissue slices and cultured cells, and to provide scientific leadership, training and mentoring to undergraduate and graduate students.

Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The following are the functions essential to performing this job.

1. Plan and carry out experiments with patch clamp and multi-electrode array physiology on cultured cells and tissue slices.

2. Conduct patch-seq experiments that combine electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry and single-cell transcriptomics.

3. Prepare figures and manuscripts for publication to disseminate results of experiments.

4. Assist in preparing grant applications to fund research projects and core functions.

5. Mentor graduate and undergraduate students working on electrophysiology-related projects

6. Work with Cell Electrophysiology (CE) Core users to plan and provide cell electrophysiology services

7. Purchase and maintain research supplies and equipment, maintain laboratory stocks and records.

8. Work to publicize and advertise facility and increase CE Core user base.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. This individual must have experience with patch clamp electrophysiology, must be able to contribute to writing manuscripts and grant applications, and be able to work independently.

Qualification Standards

1. Education: PhD degree, Biology preferred, but a PhD in another science discipline is acceptable.

2. Three or more years of more experience in carrying out experiments in electrophysiology.

3. Experience with patch clamp and patch-seq preferred.4. Recent publications using physiological methods.

1. Demonstrates persistence and creative effort in collecting and analyzing electrophysiological data from cells and tissue slices.

2. Demonstrates persistence and creative effort in learning and implementing patch-seq technique.

3. Provides assistance with preparing data figures, publications and grant applications

4. Provides effective supervision of graduate and undergraduate students working on electrophysiology projects.

5. Contribution to the growth and success of the CE Core facility
