The university invites applications for the position of tenure-track, full-time Assistant Professor of Business Administration starting August 2023. Responsibilities include teaching financial planning and other courses in the College of Business at the undergraduate and graduate levels, university service, and advising. Courses may be face-to-face, hybrid, or online. Evening teaching may be required. Screening of applications will begin on June 1, 2023, and will continue until the position is filled.

Shepherd University, established 1871, is a state-supported institution located in the Shenandoah Valley and on the banks of the Potomac River in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia. The oldest town in the state, Shepherdstown is a quaint and thriving university town connected to a larger, vibrant business and cultural community. The campus combines with the greater community to offer unique learning-living opportunities. Shepherdstown is across the river from Maryland, a quick 20 miles from Pennsylvania and Virginia, and only 65 miles from the metropolitan areas of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland.

The Department of Business Administration is located in the College of Business. The Business Program at Shepherd University offers a B.S. in Business Administration with concentrations in Entrepreneurship, Financial Planning, General Business, Management, Marketing, Risk Management and Insurance, and an M.B.A. Shepherd University places a high priority on excellence in teaching, student interaction, and service with an appropriate level of intellectual contributions. Salary range: $72,000-$78,000.

The department is looking for candidates with a Ph.D. in Financial Planning, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or closely related field from an accredited program, along with the CFP® certification. ABDs, within one year of defense, will also be considered.

The teaching load is a 4-4 but typically spread over a relatively low number of total students. Teaching schedules are flexible, but the full-time position does require an on-campus presence for face-to-face interaction with students and faculty.

Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses in financial planning but also include other courses in the College of Business. The successful candidate will also oversee the Center for Financial Education with an associated endowed lectureship with discretionary operational and faculty development funds.
