Job Summary

Uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on
issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises
judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Primarily deals with
programs and proposals with broad impact across the function, research initiative, program and / or
organization. Develops and oversees the implementation of new programs and processes.

The School of nursing is embarking on an exciting new plan to accelerate and innovate faculty practice
into the UCSF health system and beyond. The SON will create new clinical offerings for its clinical partners
and contract with these partners to deliver these offerings on their behalf.  In order to succeed in these new arenas, we are developing new partnerships and care delivery models, which need strong project management, leadership and support.

Given the type of work and our organizational culture, the Program Manager will collect and interpret
data from various sources, have strong problem solving and presentation skills, have a good
understanding of clinical care needs and be a strong team player. Incumbent will be the liaison to SON
faculty, external healthcare partners as well as key UCSF health leaders.

The Program Manager reports to the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and works in close collaboration
with the executive leadership in the School of Nursing.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

As a vital part of the world-renowned health sciences campus, the UCSF School of Nursing fosters excellence, diversity, and innovation. The school has 130 faculty members serving in leadership and advisory capacities in research, health care delivery, health policy and sociology. The school is a leader in NIH research funding awarded to schools of nursing and its academic programs are ranked among the top in the nation. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows come from all over the world to prepare for leadership roles in science, patient care, health policy and education. The School of Nursing Dean’s Office provides leadership and support to four academic departments and an organized research unit, in addition to providing a variety of services to support students and faculty.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding time frames.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staffand influence, both verbally and in writing
  • Advanced knowledge of common organizational- or research-specific and other computerapplication programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in health care administration field, nursing or other health field and a minimum of 2 years recent experience in health system administration, ambulatory, primary or specialty care
  • 2 years recent experience in project management, performance improvement or qualityimprovement.
