Scope of Responsibilities 
The Assistant Director for Student Engagement plans, coordinates, and evaluates leadership training and educational initiatives for the Greek community, most specifically with the council(s) they advise. This individual will directly supervise one full-time staff member and one graduate student, as well as advise one to two governing councils. The successful candidate will advise affiliated students in event management, planning and execution of large scale educational and philanthropic events, and contract negotiation, as well as contribute to the creation and implementation of policy and procedural initiatives to insure safe practices in risk management and responsible decision-making. The Assistant Director will engage collaboratively and partner with key stakeholders within the Duke University and Durham communities to support the ever-changing and diverse student population.

Advise one to two Greek letter organization governing councils and associated chapters, and serve as a resource for students and advisors. Attend a variety of educational and philanthropic events hosted by the council(s) and chapters. Support council(s) in the process of negotiating with University administrators, students, staff, and faculty on current University and national issues. Advise students and organizations on leadership development, risk reduction, membership recruitment/intake, wellness, and diversity/inclusion. Serve as a resource and expert on University and (inter)national Greek letter organization policy and procedures to the Division of Student Affairs departments, faculty, students, staff, and various campus entities.

Assist in the planning, coordination, and evaluation of comprehensive leadership training and development curriculum for fraternities and sororities. Plan and coordinate new member education, risk management, and gender and sexual violence prevention workshops. Lead alumni seminars and the family weekend presentation. Advise chapters in the planning and execution of large-scale events, including all aspects of event planning and contract negotiation. Partner with the Student Involvement team in the event registration and approval process for all Greek letter organizations. 

Directly supervise, train, and evaluate one full-time staff member and one graduate student. Ensure that effective performance reviews are conducted with full-time staff, and that both staff members are receiving timely and appropriate support and feedback. Direct associated efforts in staff recruitment, development, and retention, ensuring compliance with University and Division policies and human resource strategies. 

Oversee the marketing and branding efforts of Fraternity & Sorority Life. Design ways to share the story of the community with stakeholders via website, newsletter, and social media. Direct the FSL Awards program within the Division-wide In the Spotlight program as a method of sharing and celebrating community successes.

Perform other duties as assigned, including executing administrative projects, team assignments, and committee work.
