The University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development's seeks a Research Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) to support the Center to Promote Effective Youth Development (Youth-Nex ) and the Department of Human Services. The Research Assistant Professor will support a series of research and program activities related to prevention and promotion of student mental health. The anticipated start date of this appointment will be September 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead analysis and scholarly dissemination of findings related to the promotion of student mental health (e.g., conference presentations and peer reviewed journal articles).

• Support dissemination of activities to foster translation of research findings to practice (e.g., practitioner focused research briefs).

• Lead the conceptualization and submissions of extramural grant submissions related to the promotion of school mental health.

• Work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary and multi-site team involving researchers from different disciplinary traditions as well as school staff, families, and students.

The School of Education and Human Development offers a rich intellectual and collaborative environment for the preparation, development, practice, and impact of educational leaders. Opportunities for collaboration, partnership, and research are available through the K-12 Advisory Council, a 106-district outreach initiative sponsored by the School of Education; the iLEAD partnership with a K-12 school district (an improvement science initiative with the Carnegie Foundation); and preparation partnerships with Virginia school divisions. Several well-established research centers at the School of Education and Human Development offer additional collaboration and research opportunities in educational policy, the quality of teaching and learning, and adolescent development and well-being (EdPolicyWorks, CASTL, and Youth-Nex, respectively). The Darden-EHD Partnership for Leaders in Education offers sustained professional learning for district-level leaders to implement systemic change.

Required Experiences and Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in School Psychology, or a related field involving clinical practice in school settings by the start date of the position.
• Prior experience conducting analyses for writing and submitting peer-reviewed journal articles is required.
• Prior clinical or school-based experiences in K-12 settings providing social-emotional, mental health, or wellness services to students.
• A track record of conducting research within school-based research partnerships. 
• A demonstrated commitment to equity in scholarship and a track record of working collaboratively with faculty and students at all levels is required.
• A minimum of two years of experience working within research-practice partnerships with schools.
• Demonstrated skills and abilities conducting original research related to school mental health, school climate, Multitiered Systems of Support (MTSS), evidence-based practices, and/or implementation supports (e.g., coaching, consultation).
• Shows promise in seeking extramural funding for scholarship related to school mental health, school climate, MTSS, evidence-based practices, and/or implementation supports.
• Substantive understanding of psychological and educational research literature in mental health, K-12 education, and equity and diversity in educational contexts is also required.

Preferred Experiences and Qualifications:

• Two years postdoctoral training preferred or equivalent experience.
• Potential for outstanding research commensurate with a Research I institution and demonstrated ability to support and lead extramurally funded scholarship.
• Interest and experience in working on translational and community-engaged scholarship, experience with multi-disciplinary research teams, and demonstrated ability to take leadership and deliver on projects and mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students is highly preferred.  
• Prior experience developing content and contributing to submission of a federal or private grant proposal is preferred.
• Expertise in quantitative and mixed methods is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $75,000-$82,000 (commensurate with qualifications).
