Description

Dr. Katharine Jack, Department of Anthropology at Tulane University, is recruiting a postdoctoral research assistant to join a dynamic lab focused on the behavior and ecology of wild capuchin monkeys. Current projects include a longitudinal project examining testosterone, cortisol, and male life histories, an NSF-funded study of the interplay between capuchin male dominance, behavior, morphology, and olfactory signaling, and an NIH- funded project examining the social and environmental contributions to variation in health and aging among wild capuchin monkeys. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated with strong organizational, data management, and data analysis skills. Preferred start date is July 15, 2023.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with data management, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
  • Participate in biweekly lab meetings with a diverse and dynamic group of graduate and undergraduate students
  • Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator
  • Ideally, if discipline of PhD is appropriate, the candidate will teach one class in Primate Behavior and Ecology each year.


Qualifications

  • Doctorate in biological anthropology, ecology, biology, psychology, statistics, or a related field by the start of the position
  • Applicants are expected to have a strong background in statistics, ecology, and experience publishing scientific research
  • Knowledge of programing R is required
  • Database management is also a plus
  • Experience with research focused on animal behavior, particularly primates, is preferred
