Job Summary

This position in the Department of Neurology will support Professors of Neurology with their research, administrative, and/or clinical activities in the the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Clinic and Neuromuscular Division.

Under the supervision of a Clinical Research Supervisor or Principal Investigator (PI), the incumbent will perform entry-level duties related to the support and coordination of clinical studies, and may receive training and development to prepare and advance for journey-level work at the next level within the series.

Applicants should have a strong interest in neurology and/or the field of medicine, some research experience, comfort working with human subjects, and excellent organizational skills

The employee may be responsible for the coordination of one or more single or multi-site, active or follow-up clinical trials; help prepare protocols for study initiation; help design flow sheets, data forms and source documents; gather and interpret medical, surgical and laboratory data regarding clinical trial subjects; may apply understanding of inclusion/exclusion eligibility criteria for protocols; help recruit, enroll, register, schedule and retain study subjects; record protocol specific treatments and assure collection and shipment of samples; assist research personnel to keep patients on study schedules; complete study forms to submit to sponsors and/or appropriate agencies; collect, enter and clean data into study databases, maintaining data quality; assist with data analysis; assist with preparation of reports and tables; attend team meetings; provide general clinic support to the center coordinator, and perform other duties as assigned.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities or equivalent experience/training
  • Excellent oral/written/interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work with elderly and chronically ill patient populations;
  • Must be organized/detail-oriented;
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines for concurrent projects;
  • Able to prioritize workload;
  • Must be able to work well in team-oriented setting;
  • Excellent typing and computer skills;
  • Experience with multiple software programs, i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat,  iMovie,
  • Able to work with Mac and PC operating systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant administrative/research experience;
  • Experience assisting in clinical drug studies
  • Experience with or ability to navigate UCSF-specific software platforms such as: electronic medical records (APEX), procurement (BearBuy), website editing (Drupal), reimbursement (MyExpense), Committee on Human Research (CHR/iRIS).
  • Experience with conference calls, Zoom, PowerPoint and graphic design, videotaping and editing, Photoshop, social media, and devices such as scanners, faxes, projectors; administrative, volunteer coordination, and event planning skills;
  • Ability to perform library and internet searches, summarize scientific publications;
  • Understanding of and/or experience with clinical study Institutional Review Boards
  • Knowledge of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and current therapies
  • Experience in public speaking and PPT presentation
