Position Summary
The School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks an accomplished and energetic leader to serve as Chair for the Department of Radiation Oncology.
The Department of Radiation Oncology is nationally recognized for its excellence in clinical care, research, and education. The Department is comprised of more than 100 faculty, staff, and trainees. Through its highly collaborative environment, the Department of Radiation Oncology strives to provide the best and safest care for patients today, to educate the next generation of radiation oncologists and radiotherapy professionals, and to develop better cancer treatments and technologies for the future. The selected individual will provide leadership and direction across clinical programs and its 4 divisions including Clinical, Healthcare Engineering, Therapeutic Medical Physics and Cancer Biology. 
UNC Radiation Oncologists are part of a multidisciplinary cancer team that optimizes the coordination of patient needs and treatment recommendations. They collaborate regularly and extensively with local oncologists, hematologists, primary care physicians, surgical oncologists, and other medical specialties. The Department treats over 2,500 patients per year across 9 locations in North Carolina. The Department offers services in external beam radiation therapy, intensity-modulated and image-guided radiation therapy, Tomotherapy, CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery, Mobetron intraoperative radiotherapy and brachytherapy.
The Department’s research partner, Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of only 53 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States, has had more than 15 continuous years of Exceptional reviews from the National Cancer Institute. This relationship significantly enhances the Department’s translational research capabilities and the development of innovative clinical trials at both the institutional and national levels. The Department has active research programs in clinical oncology, radiation and cancer biology, medical physics, and is an acknowledged world leader in the area of computer-aided radiotherapy treatment planning. Research projects include clinical research, Carbon Nanotube-Based Radiation Systems, Treatment Planning, Image Deformation and Image Guided Radiotherapy. 
UNC Radiation Oncology and UNC Hospitals are one of the few programs in the country to offer formally structured education curriculums for each discipline within the radiation oncology team. The Department is committed to education and includes residency programs in radiation oncology and medical physics, certificate programs in radiation therapy and medical dosimetry, and graduate and postdoctoral training in physics, computer science, biomedical engineering and cancer biology. 
The selected individual will lead a diverse group of faculty, trainees, and staff members and will oversee all aspects of the Department, including clinical practice, education, research, and fiscal management consistent with the strategic planning of the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Hospitals/UNC Health.
This recruitment is Open Track/Open Rank and the appropriate track and rank will be determined once the top candidate is selected. In addition to a primary faculty appointment in the Department of Radiation Oncology, the selected candidate will hold a secondary EHRA Non-Faculty administrative appointment as Department Chair.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum qualifications include an M.D./D.O. degree, eligible for a North Carolina license, ability to obtain clinical privileges at UNC.

A formal leadership role in an academic medical department, a strong commitment to clinical excellence, a distinguished record of research accomplishments, experience in education and training healthcare professionals from all backgrounds, and a clear demonstration of the qualities needed to lead and manage a multifaceted academic department into the future.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
