Title:  Student Helper
Division:  Molecular and Human Genetics
Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 10 hours per week
Work Location:  Houston, TX
Salary Range:  Up to $12 per hour
FLSA Status:  Nonexempt

Summary

The student helper will contribute to a project studying interferon related mechanisms of retinal ganglion cell axon regeneration. They will be supervised by the PI and work directly with a postdoctoral fellow to perform experiments. They will learn basic techniques in molecular biology, image analysis, and cell culture and perform literature review on topically related papers in neuroscience and cell biology.


Job Duties
  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Meets with the PI weekly and presents a final report in lab meeting.
  • Maintains an organized electronic lab notebook.
  • Performs morphometric analysis of immunohistological images.
  • Performs molecular biology approaches including DNA, RNA and protein extractions, molecular cloning, and PCR.
  • Performs cell culture.
  • Assists with general laboratory chores.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a High School or College Student (undergraduate or graduate).
  • No experience required.
