The Opportunity:

Kansas State University, the nation’s first land-grant university, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Agriculture and Director of K-State Research and Extension (KSRE). The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual with a record of leadership who can advance the missions of the College and KSRE through creation of a bold, shared vision of education, research, teaching, and service. Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President, the Dean/Director serves on the Council of Academic Deans.

The College of Agriculture and K-State Research and Extension (COA): The CoA has over 230 faculty in eight academic units. Fifteen B.S., 11 M.S. and nine Ph.D. degree programs are administered to approximately 2,500 undergraduates and 550 graduate students. The combined budget of KSRE and the CoA is over $180 million. Numerous degree completion and certificate programs are offered via distance education. KSRE comprises the Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) and Cooperative Extension Service (CES). AES supports programs in 21 departments/units within five colleges and at four off-campus research centers. CES supports activities in four colleges, four area offices, and more than 250 extension agent positions that are jointly funded with offices in all 105 Kansas counties. COA academic programs are connected to world-leading research programs in animals and animal systems; food science, food and feed safety, and grain science; and plants and plant systems placing all of these in the top 10 programs in the country, including the leading plant pathology and grain science programs in the country. Students in the college are the fastest in the university to attain their bachelor’s degrees, and nearly 100 percent of its four-year graduates find employment soon after graduation or move on to work on higher degrees. Kansas State University was recently named the winner of four highly competitive grants totaling more than $100 million from the U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID. The grants establish and fund four Feed the Future Innovation Labs. Feed the Future Innovation Labs are a global collaboration among universities, industry and nongovernmental organizations.
