Summary

Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine Acute Care Psychologist

 

Texas Children’s Hospital is experiencing significant expansion in treating children and adolescents with mental health concerns across the acuity spectrum.  This is a unique opportunity for a dynamic psychologist to join TCH behavioral health leaders in launching our Acute Care Psychology Program.  Responsibilities combine clinical activities and leadership to provide a full range of direct and indirect care services across Acute Care programs. The Acute Care Psychologist will initially be responsible for partnering on program development, implementation, and evaluation as well as direct patient care and consultation with multidisciplinary clinical teams as we launch an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), our first inpatient psychiatric unit, and crisis behavioral health services in the TCH Emergency Centers.

 

Initial program development focuses on youth ages 12-17 presenting with depression, mood disorder, suicidal ideation/attempt, emotional dysregulation, and similar concerns.  Expansion to younger age groups and presenting concerns is expected over time.


About the Division of Psychology

The Division of Psychology within the Department of Pediatrics includes more than 40 pediatric, clinical, and neuropsychologists practicing across subspecialty areas at Texas Children’s Hospital, providing care in both the inpatient and outpatient environments. BCM, our academic home, is also home to outstanding psychology training programs at the graduate, internship, and postdoctoral levels.

About Texas Children's Hospital

Job Duties

The psychologist will:

  • Partner with current Psychology leaders to develop screening, assessment, and psychotherapeutic intervention programs in acute care settings, including intake process, program structure, group and individual therapy curriculum, outcomes measurement, and related operational/administrative tasks.
  • Support development, coordination, and implementation of psychological service delivery programs.
  • Provide direct patient care in acute care environments, including initial patient assessments, some individual/family/group intervention, and psychological testing as needed.
  • Oversee masters-level clinicians participating in the psychotherapy program.
  • Implement measurement-based care and quality/outcomes evaluation.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams working together to care for patients (psychiatry, behavioral health clinicians, nursing, social work, care management, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications
  • Clinical (Pediatric) Psychologist licensed or license eligible in TX
  • Training and/or experience in providing evaluation and intervention with adolescents presenting with depression, mood disorder, suicidal ideation/attempt,
  • Experience working in an academic medical center
  • Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong leadership/communication skills
  • Bilingual applications strongly encouraged to apply

 

Education:

  • PhD or PsyD from an APA accredited graduate school
  • Completion of an APA accredited internship
  • Completion of fellowship

  • Candidates for the position will have obtained:
  • A doctorate in clinical, counseling, or school psychology with a specialization in child clinical psychology
  • Completed both an APA-accredited psychology internship and postdoctoral training in child clinical psychology
  • The candidate must also be licensed/license-eligible in Texas
