Job Summary

Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional and implements and coordinates building management procedures and space planning activities. Develops space allocation project scope, schedule and budget plans for management review, implements and makes recommendations for new and revised procedures. Oversees various facilities-related operational activities. Has general knowledge about several operational functions. Receives little instruction on daily work, general instructions on new assignments. May function as a lead and resource or supervise support staff (for less than 2.0 FTE).

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Department of Neurology is a teaching, research and clinical care unit within the School of Medicine (SOM). The Department of Neurology is a large, multi-site department, with locations including Mission Bay, Parnassus, Mt. Zion, ZSFG, VAMC and the Gladstone Institutes and is affiliated with the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. The department is constructed of 14 administrative divisions with 11 clinical specialties. The department has over 230 faculty and academic employees, 260 staff positions, and 150 trainees including: residents (46), clinical fellows (37) and postdoctoral scholars (70).

The Department has an annual operating budget in excess of $120M and has been the #1 recipient of NIH funding across all U.S. Departments of Neurology for the past 6 consecutive years, in addition to being the #1 recipient of philanthropic dollars across all departments at UCSF.

The UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences (WIN) is a collaborative multi-disciplinary center uniting three highly esteemed UCSF departments – Neurology, Psychiatry, and Neurological Surgery – along with the basic sciences, and the Neuroscience Graduate Program. A donation of $185 million was given by Sandy and Joan Weill to provide the lead investment for the construction of a new 270,000 square-foot building at UCSF’s Mission Bay campus that will serve as WIN’s headquarters. Comprised of nearly 100 UCSF Faculty Members from 15 basic-science departments, WIN’s vision is to solve some of the most complex challenges in the human brain. The building will house state-of-the-art research laboratories, as well as clinics for patients with brain and nervous system disorders.
The WIN currently managed through the Department of Neurology.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum three years of experience / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Experience with management of capitalized assets and related processes.
  • Thorough knowledge in the areas of building space planning, codes, capacity, security, fire safety, organization and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Thorough interpersonal skills including good service orientation and effective problem solving.
  • Knowledge of architectural or engineering concepts.
  • Thorough and effective skills to multi-task and prioritize daily activities effectively.
  • Technical skills and knowledge necessary to keep laboratory and equipment in good working order and communicate well with lab staff, facility managers and vendor technicians.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
