Assistant Scientist

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, renewable, non-tenure track position at the rank of Research Assistant Scientist to begin after July 1, 2023. The appointment is in the Mass Spectrometry Research and Education Center (MSREC) under the supervision of the Director, Dr. Kari Basso. Typical applicants will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, or closely related field, with demonstrable expertise in mass spectrometry. Highly motivated individuals are sought to support advanced mass spectrometry-based projects conducted in MSREC.

It is expected the successful candidate can work independently and be part of a highly diverse research group. The candidate should have strong verbal and written communication skills in English and a good publication history. Additionally, the individual is expected to work collaboratively with the Director to coordinate all project activities, including but not limited to sample preparation, data collection and analysis, manuscript and report preparation, and conference presentations. MSREC is a highly diverse lab engaged in all levels and areas of mass spectrometry including but not limited to targeted and untargeted lipidomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. Our goal is to provide a valuable resource to complex research needs through access to a wide variety of mass spectrometry instruments, bioinformatic tools and highly trained staff. We offer both routine services and innovative research-based projects. Expertise in at least one of these research areas is desired.
