Job Description

We are currently seeking a Supervisor of Police Telecommunications who will advance the institution’s proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

A well run, well-staffed Police Communications Center is the central nervous system of all police activity on campus. And when you’re talking about HCC – spread out over 13 Centers of Excellence – that’s a lot of activity.

 

 

 

We’re looking for someone extraordinary to supervise our Police Telecommunications Operators. If multi-tasking is your specialty, if you keep your cool under stress and if you can sit down and take calls with the best of them when necessary – we’re very interested in talking with you!

  • SUMMARY

    Responsible for scheduling assignments and direct supervision of Police Telecommunications Operators and maintenance of official records of the Communications Center.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Supervise the day-to-day work assignments/schedules, including making work assignments and monitor attendance;
  2. Monitor calls for services receipt, processing and assignment, to ensure consistency with goals and objectives;
  3. Responsible for daily maintenance of all routine and emergency “traffic” routed through the communications center;
  4. Interview and recommend potential new hires for employment;
  5. Train and assist in the evaluation of employee performance to ensure quality operations;
  6. Provide subordinates appropriate administrative and technical support;
  7. Listen and discuss problems with subordinates; investigates and resolves complaints against Telecommunications Operators;
  8. Substitute and perform the duties of the Telecommunications Operator when needed;
  9. Identify emerging problems and work for their resolution;
  10. Prepare and submit reports as required;
  11. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, policies, and procedures; and
  12. Document and schedule maintenance of all dispatch related equipment.

  • QUALIFICATIONS

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.  The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

      

    EDUCATION

    High School degree or equivalent required. Associate’s degree in criminal justice, management, or related field is required.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.

     

    Intermediate Police Telecommunicator Certification, Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education required.

     

    Field Training Officer and Instructor Certification preferred.

     

    EXPERIENCE

    Three (3) years police telecommunication experience including supervision and management experience is required.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    1. Employees in this position will be scheduled to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 environment.  Employees will be expected to work holidays, nights and/or weekends to meet staffing and scheduling requirements;
    2. Demonstrated ability to use computer and related software programs to support clerical and technical functions of the position;
    3. Must have supervisory skills;
    4. Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
    5. Must have the ability to function in stressful circumstances;
    6. Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
    7. Must have the ability to provide quality customer service;
    8. Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds; and
    9. Able to remain calm and courteous under stressful situations.

    This position requires the satisfactory completion of a detailed work history and criminal background investigation by law enforcement to determine the applicant’s ability to meet minimum Texas Department of Public Safety and TCLEOSE qualifications regarding police telecommunications employment
