A senior postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Department of Biology and Biochemistry, University of Houston, Houston, TX in the laboratory of Seema Khurana, PhD. NIH funded project in the laboratory involves evaluation of changes in intestinal epithelial cellsthat contribute to inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer. The laboratory’s focus is on understanding defects in mucosal biology that impact cellular response to stress and contribute to inflammatory bowel disease. Additional studies aim to study intestinal repair-regeneration in response to chronic injury such as in inflammatory bowel disease and in response to excessive inflammation and how these changes promote metastatic colorectal disease. The laboratory uses multidisciplinary approaches that include biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, modulation of mouse models, and validation in human tissue including mouse and human organoids. The candidate must have demonstrable abilities in molecular biology. The successful candidate must be willing to work with and handle mice, and human tissue samples. Training and experience in the study of gastrointestinal physiology and disease is particularly desirable. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to advance to faculty position and an independent research career. Our laboratory has several ongoing collaborations with others research laboratories in the Texas Medical Center. Candidates should be enthusiastic about collaborative and interdisciplinary research, be highly motivated to develop as an independent scientist, have a strong work-ethic and demonstrate excellent scientific and communication skills.
