Job Summary

The Post Doctoral Fellow will work under the co-supervision and mentoring of three faculty from the Dornsife School of Public Health at Drexel University including: Dr. Jan M. Eberth, Professor and Chair of Health Management and Policy, Dr. Kasim Ortiz, Assistant Professor of Health Management and Policy and Dr. Lindsay Shea, Associate Professor and Affiliate Faculty in Health Management and Policy.  Primary job responsibilities include conducting analyses and authoring publications and grants to advance the science of medical geography and health policy from a spatial perspective (e.g., structural racism, healthcare accessibility, built environment, etc.). 

Essential Functions

  • Ensure data quality and appropriate statistical and spatial analysis per study design.
  • Draft manuscript, abstracts, and scientific posters as lead or co-author.
  • Draft and contribute to impactful policy products and dissemination activities, including data visualizations, policy briefs and other similar products.
  • Assist with development of extramural grant applications.
  • Gather, manage, and geocode relevant data in GIS or statistical software, and perform related spatial/statistical analyses.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, and interact with faculty, students and external partners as part of ongoing research studies.
  • Co-mentor Master’s and PhD level trainees.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or Doctorate in public health, epidemiology, health policy, geography, or a related field
  • Proficiency in SAS, STATA, R, or other statistical software
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Desktop or Pro, and/or web-based mapping platforms (e.g., StoryMaps)
  • Experience with data management and analysis of US Census Bureau data and other public health databases
  • Strong oral, written, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management expertise or certification
  • Applicants that can work on location in Philadelphia are preferred, although remote work arrangements may be considered in special circumstances.
