The Department of Biology, at the University of Virginia is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Timko.  The individual will join a well-established research program aimed at plant genetic engineering.

QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires that the candidate has completed a Ph.D. in plant biology, biochemistry, plant genetics/genomics, or a closely related field by the appointment start date.  The candidate must have prior training and experience in basic molecular biology, gene cloning and gene vector construction as evidenced in the applicant's published works. Experience in plant cell culture and gene expression analysis/bioinformatics a plus.

Anticipated responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

o   Ability to perform genetic manipulation of genes and expression vectors and to perform transformation and regeneration of plants.

o   Ability to perform routine molecular biological experiments including DNA extractions, gPCR/RT-PCR, gene expression profiling with RNAseq technologies

o   Prior experience with gene editing (CRSPR, TALEN, etc) methodologies highly desirable

o   Ability to provide supervision and training for graduate and undergraduate researchers
