The microbiome is a growing area of interest in many areas but especially oncology. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Byrd (Cancer Immunology) and Wolan (Infectious Disease) labs. The goal of this research position is to advance the microbiome field through discovery and functional annotation of microbiome metabolites in health and disease. The new hire will use computational approaches as part of an integrated multi-omics team to investigate how the microbiome impacts the metabolome and subsequently host immune profiles. They will have the opportunity to work with metagenomic and metabolomic data from healthy volunteers as well as patients enrolled in our oncology clinical trials. 

Excitingly, the new hire will join two research teams with computational and experimental expertise to discover and explore how microbially influenced metabolites are an important mechanism by which microbes modulate host physiology. Additionally, the fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with computational and experimental scientists specializing in microbiome, cancer immunology, immunology, metabolomics, infectious disease, and biostatistics. Scientific insights from this research will be expected to be presented at scientific conferences and published in high impact journals. 

Responsibilities

?  Conduct independent research under the supervision of Drs. Byrd and Wolan

?  Collaborate with experimental, wet-lab scientists to advance projects together.

?  Publish high quality papers based on biological advances discovered in this work.

?  Create scientifically rigorous visualizations, communications and presentations of results.

Requirements

?  Candidates must be a recent or upcoming graduate of a Ph.D. program in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science or related field. 

?  Candidates in a non-computational life sciences Ph.D. program with a demonstrated record of high-throughput data analysis in R or Python are also encouraged to apply.

?  Strong communication skills and experience working collaboratively with other computational and lab-based scientists.

?  Expertise in microbiome and/or metabolomic analysis is highly desired.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $64,800 and $120,300.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
