Job Description

Summary

The University of Michigan Children’s Centers is seeking candidates for the position of Administrative Assistant at Towsley Children’s House.  

As the administrative assistant at Towsley you will work in a dynamic environment supporting the center administrators and teachers.  You will be critical in maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment for center staff, families and U-M students. Your primary duties will be answering phones, greeting families/visitors, maintaining center files for children, staff, licensing and other business documentation, assisting with enrollment and coordinating substitutes and student staff.  This is an in-person position with Monday through Friday hours ranging between 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Children's Center Administrative Assistant reports to the Children's Center Administrative Staff Manager, in University Human Resources.

Responsibilities*

In addition to those listed above, you will: 

  • Coordinate on-boarding of temp student employees
  • Reconcile P-Cards and assist staff with Concur
  • Maintain expense records
  • Submit, track and follow-up on work-orders
  • Track inventory and order supplies
  • Help bill incidental fees and lunches

Required Qualifications*

  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to learn new concepts and tools in a dynamic work environment

Desired Qualifications*

  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to anticipate problems and take appropriate initiative
  • Outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • 1+  years of experience in an office setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google’s suite of collaborative tools
  • Familiarity with University policies, procedures and systems, including the hiring process
  • Experience in an early childhood or elementary education setting
