Research Assistant I

Job Description:

RESEARCH PROTOCOL EXECUTION.  Responsible for the setting up equipment and organizing materials used in gathering brain electrophysiology and neuropsychology data related to multiple federal grants, state-, and otherwise-funded projects.  Assists the Research Programs Coordinator in providing support for student and post-doctoral research efforts within the PI’s Lab.  Administers research protocols focusing on brain function as well as psychological and social functioning
HUMAN SUBJECT RECRUITMENT.  Under supervision of both the primary investigator (PI) and the research program coordinator, assists in recruiting research participants and is responsible for conducting standardized screenings and interviews of research participants via coordination of flyer distribution and working directly with radio and newspaper outlets for dissemination of advertisements.  Responsible for conducting standardized screenings and interviews of approximately 400 research participants from multiple federal grants and state-funded projects each year.  Assists in recruiting human subjects from the general community and from within in-patient treatment facilities in Gainesville, Jacksonville, Bunnell, Palatka, and Daytona Beach Florida.  [Requires flexible hours and travel (via rental car, provided) to facilities in those areas.]
DATA BASE MANAGEMENT.  Assists in database management and data input.  Works closely on a daily basis with the research program coordinator, the PI, pre-doctoral students, undergraduate researchers, and postdoctoral associates in managing data and assisting in data input.
UNDERGRADUATE TRAINEES.  Responsible training of and demonstration to graduate and undergraduate students in a variety of standardized research procedures.  Assists in overseeing and scheduling (with the Research Program Coordinator) five to ten undergraduate researchers.
HUMAN SUBJECT TRANSPORTATION.  Procures means of transportation (rental car) and coordinates transportation of human subjects to/from treatment facilities (Gainesville, Jacksonville, Bunnell, Daytona Beach, and Palatka, FL) or their private homes. 
SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT.  Maintains inventory of necessary research-related supplies, materials, and equipment for the laboratory, replenishing items as needed.
HUMAN SUBJECTS PAYMENTS.  Works closely with the Research Program Coordinator to prepare human subject payments for all studies which the PI has active.  Assists in disseminating checks/cash and preparing associated forms.

Expected Salary:

$19.00 - $21.00

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

EDUCATION & TRAINING: Undergraduate degree in psychology, chemistry, physiology, or a related science
