The Malany lab is at the forefront of validating microfluidic tissue-on-chip automated platforms that will work onboard manned and unmanned space vehicles. We are seeking a highly self-motivated and qualified machine learning and cellular image analysis researcher to join a cell biology and drug discovery lab in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Florida as a postdoctoral associate for a one-year appointment renewable for 1-2 additional years.

This is an exciting opportunity for a computational biologist/tissue engineer to contribute to cellular disease modeling, drug discovery and in-space biomanufacturing. Our lab is focused on a skeletal muscle microphysiological system for monitoring tissue degradation as a model of sarcopenia and on studying drug-resistance pathways in liver cancer and modeling chemokine CXCR6 antagonists as therapeutics for hepatocellular carcinoma.  Your role will be to lead, develop, and publish impactful research applying machine learning methods for multimodal image and data analysis to model disease progression. imaging content and data will come from a variety of resources including real-time contraction videos from ground and space studies, tissue images, high content immunofluorescence imaging, proteomics, and genomics.

Expected Salary:

Salary as defined by NIH guidelines, and based on education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. degree in computer science, electrical and computer engineering, biomedical engineering, applied mathematics, biochemistry, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Track record of innovative research and successful publications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Significant experience in machine learning, image or high content processing, computer vision, and/or data science
  • Working knowledge of tissue engineering field
  • Proficient in computer software such as Python, MATLAB, Digital image correlation, NCorr, autocorrelation
