A postdoctoral research associate position is available in Dr. Xin Zhao’s Integrated Vegetable Cropping Systems laboratory in the Horticultural Sciences Department at the University of Florida, Gainesville. The postdoc researcher will lead a multi-disciplinary project with a focus on watermelon grafting and nutrient management. The candidate will conduct field and laboratory studies to examine crop productivity and fruit quality, plant health, and nutrient uptake and use efficiency. Data analysis and interpretation, presentations at professional meetings, report and manuscript preparation, and assistance with project coordination and outreach are required.

Expected Salary:

48,000

Minimum Requirements:
  • PhD (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Horticultural Sciences, Plant Science, Soil Science or related discipline
  • Experience in field and greenhouse crop production as well as laboratory work
  • Familiar with vegetable crop nutrient management and fertilization programs
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis of research data using SAS
  • A demonstrated record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals
  • Superior organizational, verbal, and written communication skills as well as teamwork skills
  • Candidates must be supportive of the mission of the Land-Grant system.  Candidates must also have a commitment to the IFAS core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications:

General expertise in vegetable production systems, soil fertility, and crop nutrition. Proficiency in the use of JMP and/or R for data analysis in addition to using SAS. Project management training and/or experience.
