Research Scientist, Department of Neuroscience

Job Description


The Department of Neuroscience and the Center of Brain Immunology and Glia at the University of Virginia is seeking a motivated Research Scientist to work in the Kuan Lab to investigate (1) neurotoxicity of the phosphorylated Tau oligomers and (2) experimental thrombolytic and collateral circulation treatments, both mainly using murine models. Applicants for this position must have a PhD degree in neuroscience, cell biology, immunology, pharmacology, physiology, or other basic biomedical research fields, and >10 years of working experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow or higher. The job responsibilities include designing and executing experiments independently with minimal instructions from the Lab Head. The responsibilities also include teaching junior postdoctoral fellows and supervising research assistants.  In addition, other duties may be assigned.

Qualified candidates should have:

Education: PhD degree in neuroscience, cell biology, immunology, pharmacology, physiology, or other basic biomedical research fields

Experience: 10 years or greater of working experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow or higher is preferred


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work requiring fine finger manipulation. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.

The position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.  A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position.
