Job Description

---

The University of Oklahoma seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to participate in NIH funded studies on the neurobiology of somatosensation and taste and how these senses interact. The experiments in this project specifically focus on delineating how neural pathways for taste and somatosensation intersect in the mouse brain, with an emphasis on defining the cell types that support this intersection in the parabrachial nucleus and also the amygdala. The work has implications for understanding how sensory valence is represented by the nervous system and for defining principles of sensory integration.

The position is based in Dr. Chris Lemon’s lab in the Department of Biology on the OU Norman campus. The lab group seeks a self-motivated individual for this position who works well in a collaborative, team environment. The candidate will work on and receive training in CNS systems neurophysiology in mouse models, application of modern molecular techniques for neural control including optogenetics and DREADDs in neurobehavioral studies, behavioral and lickometry analyses, and quantitative methods / programming. Additional training will include opportunities to build writing and presentation skills, experimental design, research ethics, and lab mentoring/leadership.

The Lemon lab is housed in a modern research-dedicated building and is well-equipped for neurobehavioral studies, including having its own environmentally controlled mouse colony facility adjacent to the lab space. On-campus core facilities include an advanced multiphoton and confocal microscopy facility that is available for lab use. Office/cubicle space for lab personnel is available. Please visit chrislemonlab.org for more information about the Lemon lab.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter expressing their interest in the position, their CV, and the names and contact information for three references via email to lemon@ou.edu.
