About the Position:

Saint Vincent Academy (SVA) is seeking a Development Officer for a full-time position. The Development

Officer will work with the development team to diversify and grow the current fundraising program,

which includes donor research, recruitment, cultivation, retention, stewardship, and donor recognition.

The role includes frontline fundraising and administrative responsibilities.

A successful candidate for this position is a self-motivated individual with outstanding organization and

interpersonal skills, proven attention to detail and follow-through and enthusiasm for SVA’s mission.

JOB SUMMARY

The Development Officer is a part of SVA’s development team and is responsible for supporting the

mission and strategic priorities of SVA to secure funding from their community.

Support all aspects of major gift fundraising, including campaigns along with working in collaboration

with the other development team members to identify and qualify prospective donors to ensure the

implementation of timely cultivation and solicitation strategies. Responsible for maintaining the major

gift prospect pipeline, plan, and timeline, fundraising progress reports, and goals, cultivation,

solicitation, and stewardship activities in support of fundraising goals and priorities.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES

Identify, qualify, and develop prospective individuals, corporations, and foundation donors to expand

existing prospect pipelines.

Work together as a team to execute a systematic, strategic plan to diversify, strengthen and increase the

funding base to create new opportunities for funding, for both capital projects in addition to other

major gift fundraising initiatives.

Support the development team, board members and school leadership by developing existing and new

donors.

Take lead on creating a strong solicitation strategy, including preparing development-related

communication materials in support of SVA’s fundraising activities, such as briefing/proposal materials,

case statements, reports, and others.

Conduct in-person development, briefing and solicitation meetings, independently and in partnership

with the development team, principal, board, and school staff.

Maintain detailed records of all donor contact information, history and moves management tracking.

Provide accurate and timely reports, data, and supporting information, as needed.

Develop ongoing relationships with key prospects and donors.

Assist with creation of SVA’s marketing and collateral pieces; distribute as appropriate to donors,

potential donors, and partners.

Participate in community relations activities as necessary to promote SVA and develop donor

relationships.

Assist the development team in planning, organizing, and implementing annual special events to

support fundraising needs and promote continuous donor development.

Perform other duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

3-4 years of development/fundraising experience.

Demonstrated ability in securing grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations and/or

other private funding sources.

Demonstrate knowledge of development/fundraising best-practices, protocols, procedures, and data

management – Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Must be able to take initiative, maintain good communications and develop effective relationships with

donors, board members, prospects, and colleagues.

Ability to work effectively in a team focused environment, independently and as a development team

member.

Ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite products, especially Word and Excel.

Database management skills, specifically Raiser’s Edge.

Dedicated individual to support the legacy and mission of Saint Vincent Academy.

Extended knowledge of Newark business, professional, educational, and community organizations.
