Serves as the primary learning/academic officer at assigned location(s) and is responsible for academic quality at that location. Operates with autonomy and maintains an academic atmosphere conducive to learning, and program growth. Assures and assesses student learning, improves continuation rate and provides a high level of student support. Serves as the face of Strayer University with client partner promoting professional and responsible behavior. 
 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with academic policies, procedures and standards. Makes recommendations to change policies, practices and procedures when necessary.

  • Ensures compliance with and demonstrates sensitivity to the host client’s policies, procedures, and expectations regarding civil treatment of their employees.

  • In conjunction with site partner, establishes and maintains a positive culture and morale that ensures the site meets its goals.

  • Supports the advising and registration efforts for new and continuing students. Assists students in obtaining Letters of Credit for quarterly enrollment following prescribed Strayer University and client partner policies and procedures.

  • Ensures strong student outcomes by providing effective and timely advising and coaching to all students, particularly those who are “at risk”. Schedules and holds advising sessions to support student academic progress and effective course sequencing.

  • Conducts and documents academic advising including new student advising, alert advising and graduation advising. Ensures notes and comments are posted in S360 within 24 hours of the advising conversation or attempt.

  • Ensures timely and specific documentation of student discussions, advising sessions and other pertinent information in the Advising Dashboard.

  • Maintains active and regular communications using a variety of media and tools with enrolled students to ensure a high level of student support.

  • Conducts effective new student orientations, including introduction to online learning, to familiarize adult learners with University policies, procedures, and services.

  • Participates with Operations in conducting and delivering effective and efficient New Hire classes either onsite or virtually to deliver a positive message regarding the client tuition benefit and Strayer University.

  • Coordinates, or develops and conducts information literacy activities which meet the needs of the student population.

  • Compiles and reports student and program data and other activity updates to the Sr. Dean for the area.

  • In conjunction with the Senior Dean over the area, assesses prior learning petitions by the students including experiential learning portfolios and challenge examinations.

  • Takes the lead in planning and executing, in conjunction with Operations, local site graduation events for students that balances local culture with traditional academic decorum. Follows best practices guidelines and check lists to ensure a quality and meaningful event for students, families and client guests.

  • May be assigned to cover more than one Verizon campus or participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Maintains required 40 hours in office hours each week.

  • May participate in recruiting, assigning and mentoring adjunct faculty consistent with the University’s Faculty Hiring Procedures and Onsite Program standards, including assuring successful completion of teaching demonstrations, new faculty orientation, and the client’s instructor certification process.

  • May participate in observing and evaluating the performance of adjunct faculty member as assigned and reports observations to Dean of Faculty and Sr. Dean.

  • Tutors, or arranges for others to tutor students as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Education:

  • Master degree from accredit university required, Terminal Degree preferred.

 

Work Experience:

  • Broad educational background preferably in business with at least two years teaching experience at the college level,; excellent oral and written communication skills; at least one year administrative experience.

 

Job Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate with all levels of Strayer University and client partners effectively and professionally.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and establish positive working relationships with Strayer peers and colleagues and client representatives.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in providing timely advising to students.

  • Ability to create and present information clearly and with positive impact.

  • Proficiency in teaching at the college level, preferably in business.

  • Ability to recognize and solve problems, or make recommendations for resolution.

  • Ability to take charge and play a strong role in mentoring partners and peers to ensure positive and professional decorum at all times.

  • Strong inter-organizational awareness and ability to work well with others throughout the organization.

  • Ability to adapt to changing work environment and situations.

  • Strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

 

Other:

  • Must be able to travel 25% of time.

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.

  • Typical office setting.

  • Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor.

  • Travel via plane, car, and metro is required to perform this job.

  • Deans must provide dedicated office space where private conversations can be held with students/colleagues.

  • Must have access to high speed internet connectivity.

  • Access information using a computer.

  • Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain.

  • Effectively cope with stressful situation

  • Strong mental acuity

  • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.

  • Other essential functions and marginal job functions are subject to modification.
