These new schools are Business and Technology; Design, Arts, and Humanities; and Sciences, Mathematics, and Education.

The Marymount University community invites applications for the position of Associate Dean in each of these schools. Guided by the traditions of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Marymount University emphasizes intellectual curiosity, service to others, and a global perspective. With a main campus just outside Washington, DC, in Arlington, VA, and two other educational sites in close proximity, Marymount is Virginia’s only Catholic comprehensive university.

A welcoming, inclusive and diverse learning community, Marymount enrolls approximately 3,500 students, of whom 70% are undergraduates and 30% are graduate students. Over 37% of the Marymount student body is made up of under-represented communities. The University offers over 30 undergraduate, 18 masters, and 3 doctoral programs within four academic schools: Design, Arts, and Humanities; Business and Technology; Sciences, Mathematics, and Education; and the Malek School of Health Professions. With 162 full-time faculty, 195 part-time faculty and a student to faculty ratio of 13:1, the Marymount community prides itself on being student-centered and committed to student success.

  • Each Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean of their respective school, assisting the Dean in managing daily operations in the school; assisting faculty and students in resolving issues and concerns including curriculum matters, transfer of credits, class scheduling, registration, academic advising, graduation; and coordinating other school matters. The Associate Dean represents the school in the absence of the Dean, assists with management and leadership of the school, carries out administrative duties such as preparing the annual schedule of classes and catalog text, collaborates with the Registrar and other Associate Deans to develop and implement policy, and collaborates with the Dean and others to address trends and innovations in liberal arts education and the disciplines within their school.

 

Minimum Qualifications

The ideal candidates will be strategic, collegial, innovative, and energetic leaders with the following qualifications:

 

  • Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate or terminal degree in one of the disciplines of the school

  • A record of progressive experience in academic administration (such as department chair, assistant dean, or equivalent)

  • Knowledge of trends and innovations in liberal arts education and the disciplines within their school

  • Excellent managerial and oral and written communication skills

  • Experience using data to improve processes

  • An understanding of, and affinity for, Marymount’s mission, vision, and values, including its Catholic identity

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A strong record of teaching and scholarship appropriate for an appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor in a department within the School is preferred but not required

  • Familiarity with programs such as Adobe and Excel
