Develop, promote, and coordinate all facets of Golden West College's men's Lacrosse program. The Head Lacrosse coach provides leadership, direction, and oversees all coaching for an intercollegiate Lacrosse program operating under the California Community College Athletic Association. Assignment includes day, evening, and weekend duties.
Head Coach, Men's Lacrosse Responsibilities:
- Leading in all phases of coaching intercollegiate men's Lacrosse at the community college level, including but not limited to the recruitment of quality college student-athletes; lead practice, competitions and games; enforce team policies and rules as well as college policies and rules, fundraising and community involvement.
- Recruitment of player, including scout, identify and recommend student athletes in such a manner that encourages diversity while maintaining a competitive atmosphere
- Budget development and management, practice/game management, monitor academic progress as well as social media supervision of student-athletes, build public relations, and conduct fundraising activities.
- The head coach is expected to perform all other job-related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director within the rules and regulations of the CCCAA, Orange Empire Conference, and Golden West College.
- May drive college vehicles or college leased vehicles to and from scheduled contests.
- Communicates with the Sports Information Director in a timely manner.
- Coordinates with Sports Medicine the care and reporting of incidents and injuries to the appropriate college and district personnel.
- Prepare a season summary and ensures nominations for student honors within conference, region and other athletic governing bodies are recommended and advocated.
- Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes.
- Maintain effective professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administrators, alumni and the general public with regularly scheduled media and public speaking engagements; develop community support for the program, and fundraising.
- Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Qualifications and Physical Demands
1. Must meet one of the following qualifications under (a) through (d):
- Possess the California Community College Teaching Credential for this subject area.
- Bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience,
- OR associate degree and six years of professional experience.
- OR, possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above. Candidates making application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required materials.
2. Two (2) years of professional experience that is directly related to coaching Lacrosse.
3. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Licenses and Certifications:
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Valid driver license
Requires the ability to function in a classroom, office, gymnasium or outdoor environment performing work of primarily active nature with requirement to to utilize large motor skills. Requires the ability to frequently carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly. Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in person. Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in on-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment. Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens. Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment. Requires the ability to lift, pull, push or move up to 25 pounds. Requires the ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, turn/twist, balance, and reach overhead.
Work is primarily performed on a Lacrosse field, classroom or office setting under general supervision and with appropriate climate controls. Travel, early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills.
- Evidence of the ability to actively recruit, plan, organize, and administer a Lacrosse program.
- Experience with student success programs in a community college setting.
- Knowledge of CCCAA and guidelines governing recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
- Six years of Lacrosse coaching experience; prefer two years as a head coach.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively, fostering a cooperative work environment.
Conditions of Employment
Employment is on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon verification of employment history, background verification as governed under Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. The hours of work and effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.
Placement on the Part-Time Faculty Pay Scale is determined by the applicant's education and experience.

Who needs to apply for Equivalency?
1) Candidates who are applying for faculty and/or academic administrator positions, but do not meet the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges (Download PDF reader) (Download PDF reader), may still apply to the position under an Equivalency. Applying on the basis of Equivalency means that the applicant feels they have a combination of education and/or experience that would be equivalent to the state minimum qualifications, allowing them to teach under the discipline. Candidates must complete and upload an Application for Equivalency, along with supporting documentation, to their online employment application.
2) Candidates who are applying for faculty and/or academic administrator positions and their required degrees are not yet posted on their transcripts at the time of application must attach a completed Application for Equivalency to their online application.

Additionally, in order to establish salary/class placement of hired faculty with the Coast Community College District, unless the degree is a doctorate in the discipline being taught, the highest class placement will be calculated by the number of upper division/graduate units earned past a bachelor's/master's degree. When requesting foreign transcripts to be evaluated, it is the applicant/employee's responsibility to request to have the specific units evaluated as well (i.e., include the number of units earned per course and the level of the course taken [upper division, graduate, lower division, undergraduate, etc.]).
