Job Description

The Dixie L. Leavitt School of Business at Southern Utah University invites applications for Lecturer in Accounting or Finance (non-tenure-track) in the Accounting and Finance Department.

The Dixie L. Leavitt School of Business at Southern Utah University is accredited by AACSB International and offers bachelors degrees in business administration with ten different majors and several minors in different disciplines. Graduate programs include Master of Business Administration, Master of Accounting, Master of Science in Business
Analytics, and a MAcc/MBA dual degree program. The accounting and finance programs at Southern Utah University (SUU)
are accredited by AACSB International through the school of business. The accounting program prepares students for careers in accounting and graduate studies. The MAcc program offers four emphases: public accounting, managerial accounting, tax, and data analytics. The Finance program prepares students for careers in finance and graduate studies. The Finance program offers two tracks, a Corporate Finance Track and an Investment Track. The program also supports the MBA program with graduate finance courses and health care administration courses.

Southern Utah University is a comprehensive, state-supported, regional graduate and undergraduate degree-granting institution located in Cedar City, Utah, with an enrollment of about 15,000 students. It is home to the Utah Shakespeare Festival and is surrounded by national parks, monuments, forests, and wilderness areas that draw millions of visitors annually from around the world. The university is located about 2 hours from Las Vegas and 3 hours from Salt Lake City. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction in graduate courses for the MBA, MAcc, and
    undergraduate accounting and/or finance programs through on-
    campus and online formats. Courses taught will include the MBA
    business foundations course and other courses in finance or
    accounting related to candidate's expertise and experience.
  • Engage and mentor students in alignment with the mission and
    vision of the university and school.
  • Promote and nurture accounting or finance industry contacts for
    field trips, internships, and career opportunities.
  • In addition to teaching fall and spring, teach two courses during
    summer sessions.
  • Provide service to the department, school, and university.
  • Attend School and University meetings and events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the administration.


In accordance with Utah State Code 53B-1-110, appointment to this position is contingent upon the successful passing of a background check.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master of Accountancy degree or Master of Business.
  • Administration degree.
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance.
  • Industry experience in accounting or finance.
  • If experience is in accounting, a current CPA license.
  • Ability to provide an excellent educational experience for
    students.
  • Willingness to adhere to university policy.
