Job Summary


Supported by the Howard and Nancy Marks Post-Doctoral Fellowship, the Principal Researcher position is designed to foster research that is on the boundaries among psychology, economics and finance. The Principal Researcher is primarily responsible for serving as the coordinator of the Center for Decision Research brownbag series, and assist with other Center programs and events as needed. In addition, the Principal Researcher will receive a research budget and may collaborate on projects of mutual interest with faculty at the Booth School and other units at the University of Chicago.

This position is anticipated to last two years and begins Summer/Fall 2023.

 
Responsibilities
  • Serves as the coordinator of the Center’s brownbag series and assists with other Center programs and events as needed.
  • Develops original research questions and implements studies to investigate those questions.
  • Participates in study design, data acquisition and analysis, manuscript development, and presentation/publication of results.
  • Assists with teaching assistant responsibilities of up to two quarters of behavioral science classes each academic year.
  • Uses subject matter and best practices knowledge to perform lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Works independently to assist with project design.
  • Guides data collection, evaluation and analysis. Designs and manages databases. Writes reports, articles and manuscripts.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
 
Education:
  • Ph.D. (earned or expected by August 2023) in psychology, economics, or finance.
 
Experience:
  • Experience in conducting computer, web-based, and interpersonal interaction-based experiments.
 
Preferred Competencies
  • Familiarity with methods of experimentation.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, as well as organizational and attention to detail skills.
  • Work independently with little supervision; possess a self-motivated disposition; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective changes, all while achieving key objectives resulting in desired outcomes.
  • Excellent strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical, and persuasion skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods i.e., in person, email, phone.
  • Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a customer service-oriented approach.
