Responsibilities

1. Participate in the management of the College of Liberal Arts as a member of the Provost's Council of Deans; participate in the management of the University as a member of the President's Council of Administrators.

2. Manage and supervise program reviews and accreditation of academic units within the college.

3. Research, plan, and implement strategic directions and initiatives for the college.

4. Assist with the oversight of budgets of the college's academic departments and programs.

5. Work with the Dean for communication management within the college.

6. Work with the Dean on scheduling and enrollment management of the college.

7. Collaborate with the Dean to review and respond to faculty development plans and reports; work with faculty to resolve issues and concerns. Work with the Dean, faculty, and students in handling student complaints, investigations, and disciplinary actions.

8. Work with CLA departments to develop hiring plans and manage searches for the college. Assure that diversity initiatives are communicated and understood by faculty in the departments.

9. Represent the interests and concerns of the college as requested at public events and on community boards. Represent the college in absence of the Dean in Deans Council and in the Council of Administration. Participate in university, Minnesota State, and national committees and councils.

10. Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Dean for the College of Liberal Arts or the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Earned terminal degree from an accredited institution in an academic discipline within the College of Liberal Arts.

2. At least 8 years of experience in higher education and academic credentials appropriate for the rank of Associate Professor. At least two years of administrative experience in higher education, e.g., department chairperson or program director.

Preferred Qualifications

A. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform duties and responsibilities:

• Demonstrated knowledge of academic administration and experience with program implementation and development

• Familiarity with accrediting standards and/or program review processes

• Strong demonstrated skills in leadership, budgeting, resource management, and affirmative action practices

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; public speaking skills

• Collaborative and collegial working style with a demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks and adapt to changing institutional priorities

• Effective organizational and project management skills

• Strong understanding of university operations along with the ability to interact with community leaders

• Understanding of the collective bargaining process and of shared governance practices

• Experience with mentoring and leading others to fulfill their potential

• Skills working with and supporting members of a diverse setting

• Ability to foster an environment in which there is a strong commitment to diversity

B. Physical Requirements (for example: lifting and carrying equipment and materials, required overnight travel, etc.):

• Evening and weekend work; overnight travel

• Must have valid driver's license and ability to pass Fleet Safety/Motor Vehicle Records Check
