Description
Overview: The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) develops and delivers collaborative solutions to global ocean challenges. We are dedicated to the resilience of the Gulf of Maine ecosystem and the communities that depend on it. To learn more, visit gmri.org. GMRI is seeking applicants for a full-time postdoctoral research associate to work under the supervision of Dr. Kathy Mills at GMRI in Portland, ME. The successful candidate will also collaborate with others, including Dr. Scott Large, at the Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) in Woods Hole, MA. The postdoctoral associate will conduct statistical analyses and modeling of bottom trawl survey data to determine how functional traits of the fish community on the Northeast U.S. Shelf have changed in the past 50 years, evaluate drivers of these changes, and assess relationships between trait-based responses and environmental conditions. The postdoctoral associate will also contribute information from this research to the State of the Ecosystem reports produced for the mid-Atlantic and New England regions by the NEFSC. This project is funded for 12 months (starting July 1, 2023), with the possibility of extension. Extension possibilities may include further research on this topic or may arise from projects focused on species distribution modeling and population dynamics modeling.
