Summary

The Research Program on Cognition and Neuromodulation Based Interventions (RP-CNBI) is recruiting a full-time Research Technician Associate.  The primary emphasis of this program is on neuropsychological testing and non-pharmacological interventions in older adults and those in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.  The successful candidate will be expected to perform a range of duties in support of multiple research projects. The characteristic duties and responsibilities of this position may evolve to match changing needs and priorities.
The candidate will be working with the study team on an observational study involving Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).  They will be able to operate in a semi- independent manner to assist in this study and related projects.  It is expected that the successful candidate will be able to perform all study-related duties if/as needed.  Opportunities to lead or assist with the creation of posters, papers, and presentations for scientific meetings may be available. The candidate will handle other scientific administration and clerical activities as directed to support the Research Program, including coordinating with other researchers throughout the health system. The Research Technician will work closely with faculty and staff at the RP-CNBI as well as other departments to accomplish study specific goals.  These may include the preparation and management of Institutional Review Board applications, amendments and other regulatory submissions, as well as recruitment and screening of participants, completion of study visits, and data entry. 
Ideal candidates will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Psychology or Neuroscience equivalent education and experience. Experience with transcranial magnetic current stimulation is required.  
Strong clinical skills and superior verbal and written communication are desired.  Experience working with older adults is preferred.  Candidate must have demonstrable knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Responsibilities*

  • Recruit and screen study participants
  • Utilizes TMS and/or tDCS in research studies
  • Enter data into secure database
  • Act as liaison with study team members, and other study teams
  • Maintaining regulatory compliance and documentation
  • Participate in team conference, journal club and other trainings
  • Other duties as needed to support the Research Program and Manager/Director

Required Qualifications*

All applicants must have: 

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple study team members
  • Excellent computer skills 
  • Ability to work semi-independently
  • Ability to problem-solve and establish timelines and priorities
  • Available to work occasional weekends as necessary to support the program
  • Must have reliable transportation since local travel will be expected

To be considered for the Research Technician Senior Level applicants must also have: 

  • A bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related Health Science discipline. 
  • 1 or more years of relevant experience, at least 6 months of which involve the administration of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. 

To be considered for the Research Technician Associate level applicants must also have: 

  • A bachelor's degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related Health Science discipline. 
  • 6 month of relevant experience with the administration of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with administering and scoring neuropsychological tests
  • EEG, fNIRS, or tDCS experience preferred
  • Experience with investigator-initiated and federal sponsored trials preferred
  • Experience working with older adults, particularly with cognitive impairment
  • Experience with IRB/regulatory compliance activities

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
