Summary

The Child Health Evaluation and Research (CHEAR) Center at the University of Michigan is seeking a research assistant. This individual will be responsible for providing research support to Dr. Kao-Ping Chua, MD, PhD. Projects will focus on a broad variety of topics, including the opioid epidemic, out-of-pocket costs, and pediatric health care. The Research Assistant will be responsible for programming using large administrative databases, conducting literature reviews, and assisting with presentations and manuscripts. This position will be paid hourly, and the individual will work 20 hours per week except on days when the CHEAR Center is closed (e.g., holidays).

Responsibilities*

  • Programming and statistical analyses
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Assist with writing and editing of manuscripts and reports
  • Assist in preparing presentations
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator

Required Qualifications*

  • Intermediate proficiency with R, Stata, or SAS
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in the sciences, social sciences, statistics, computer science, or related fields
  • Advanced proficiency with R, Stata, or SAS
  • Prior research or internship experience in health, health care, health policy, or health law
  • Proficiency in conducting literature reviews in PubMed and other similar databases

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday (20 hours/week)

Work Locations

North Campus Research Complex, Building 16.

The responsibilities of this position may be fulfilled in a hybrid work environment, depending on the preference of the selected candidate. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
