Summary

This Cinical Research Technician position may provide study coordination for multiple clinical research studies depending on complexity that range from moderate to complex. Technician experience and mastery of all job duties from the CRC-Technician position on the Michigan Medicine CRC Career Ladder is required. This role will support the Michigan and You – Partnering to Advance Research Together (MY PART) study.

We are looking for a personable, self-motivated, and organized Clinical Research Technician to help with recruitment activities for MY PART.  The mission of MY PART (https://precisionhealth.umich.edu/our-research/my-part/) is to enroll individuals who reflect the diversity of the United States, across health status, age, gender identity, race, ethnicity, and geography.  Key job responsibilities include approaching and collecting data from Michigan Medicine patients using a hybrid recruitment approach – including enrolling and administering surveys to participants through an electronic platform, as well as collection of DNA materials.  This term-limited opportunity is great for candidates interested in gaining hands-on clinical research experience and/or before applying to graduate or medical school.

Responsibilities*

Screening/Recruitment

  • Work with Project Manager to structure daily study activities and recruitment
  • Approach potential participants, provide study overview, all while being sensitive to environment and people involved.
  • Explain study thoroughly, reviewing study documents, answering any questions, and obtaining consent.
  • Travel to recruit and perform study visits at various Michigan clinics and community sites

Data Collection

  • Utilize standard operation procedures and electronic data capture systems to track recruitment and retention of participants.
  • Assist in preparing for internal and external audits and reports, such as regulatory compliance and study milestones.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary. 
  • Minimum 1 year of directly related experience in clinical research and clinical trials is necessary.
  • Interest in clinical health research
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Superb interpersonal skills – comfortable speaking with healthcare providers and patients and working independently and as a member of a research team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in both verbal and written form.
  • Ability to communicate research study details clearly over the phone.
  • Strong computer skills and technical aptitude and comfort with new and emerging applications
  • Ability to travel for on-site recruitment.

Desired Qualifications*

  • An understanding of medical terminology
  • Experience in interviewing research participants
  • High degree of comfort with smart phones, app installation, videoconferencing software, and other remote tools.
  • Experience using MyDataHelps MiChart, and LabVantage, are helpful.

Supervision Received:

This position reports directly to MY PART Project Manager

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
