Butler Community College, located in El Dorado, KS, is seeking an experienced and innovative academic leader to serve as Dean of Humanities, Social &
 
 
Behavioral Sciences.
 
This is an exciting time to join Butler Community College as the next Dean of the Humanities, Social & Behavioral Sciences (HSBS) division. The Dean is responsible for innovation in developing, implementing, and supervising all curriculum and instruction within the division’s disciplines as it relates to the total college program. The Dean provides the leadership and management of the following programs: Behavioral Sciences, Social Sciences (Economic, Geography, History), English, Foreign Languages,
Philosophy and Religion, Political Science, and Reading. This position promotes communication, community, and collaboration within the division and across the college, advocates for faculty and department goals, facilitates communication between the administration, faculty and staff, and supports student recruiting and retention efforts.
 
Successful experience in communication and organization of a diverse group of employees; experience with leading diverse programs is desired. Demonstrated success in an organizational leadership role. The Dean works under the supervision of the Vice President for Academic Affairs
Required education includes a Master’s degree within a discipline represented in HSBS. Doctorate preferred. At least 5 years of academic leadership experience as a lead, chair, associate dean, or dean is required, preferably in a community college setting.

Qualifications

 

Required knowledge and skills
A. Must be able to interact professionally and effectively with faculty, administration, staff, students and members of the community.
B. Must be able to use independent judgment.
C. Must possess good communication, decision-making and facilitation skills.
D. Must possess good organizational and time management skills.
E. Must have knowledge of budgeting process and be able to develop and administer division budgets.
F. Must have knowledge of academic courses, degrees, programs, and campus sites and be able to effectively schedule division courses.
G. Must have knowledge administration.
H. Must be able to administer activity scholarship programs and work closely with the departments within the Student Services division.

 
Required experience
A. Demonstrated experience in communication and organization of a diverse group of employees.
B. Demonstrated success in an organizational leadership role.
C. Experience working with budgets is preferred.
D. At least 5 years of academic leadership experience as a lead, chair, associate dean, or dean, is required (preferably in a community college setting).

 
Required educational background
A. Master’s degree from an accredited institution within a Humanities, Social or Behavioral Sciences discipline.
B. Doctoral degree, or additional hours beyond a Master’s degree is preferred.
