Associate Research Scientists
The Institute for Cancer Genetics (https://www.vagelos.columbia.edu/departments-centers/institute-cancer-genetics) located at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) campus offers abundant learning opportunities in cancer research, data clubs, seminar series, journal clubs, and university lectures. Positions at the Institute for Cancer Genetics as Associate Research Scientists are available to elucidate the pathogenesis of human cancer as a means to identify novel mechanistically based diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The Institute’s research includes the study of general mechanisms involved in tumorigenesis, DNA replication and repair, metabolism, metastasis, and immune surveillance, as well as the dissection of genetic lesions underlying specific cancer types, such as leukemias and lymphomas; brain tumors; and pancreatic, breast and lung carcinomas.
Candidates must have a strong background in molecular and cancer biology, at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience, and a strong record of productive scientific research. Incumbents will carry out experimental work on research projects established in liaison with individual laboratory PIs and perform experiments either independently or in collaboration with other lab members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD and/or MD in one of the biological sciences or other field directly related to cancer research
- At least three years of postdoctoral research experience
- Ability to conduct research independently with minimum oversight and to work in collaboration with others
- Experience with microbiology laboratory techniques
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Strong writing skills and a track record of publications
SALARY RANGE:$66,100–$69,446
