Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Office of Extended Studies (OES) Business Manager provides daily administrative, financial, and analytical support for OES programs. This includes the Summer session, Winter session, Freshman Connection, OES- Shady Gove, OES-Southern Maryland, Graduate, Post Baccalaureate Programs, Massive Open Online Courses, Open Learning non-credit programs, and Executive Education credit and non-credit programs.

This position provides support for various activities, including but not limited to budgeting, contracting, accounting, procurement, human resources, financial reporting, and other activities related to administrative and financial aspects of OES in compliance with OES and University guidelines.

The Business Manager is assigned a specific portfolio of colleges and departments. He/She will work with numerous individuals on various levels, from coordinators to directors, to perform the job’s responsibilities. The individual will work closely with the OES finance team, colleges, and departments. Additionally, they will work with Student and Financial Services and Cashiering (SFSC), the Department of Information Technology (DIT), and the Department of Transportation Services (DOTS).

The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, positive, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and team-oriented and has experience taking the initiative to complete tasks. Excellent communications and computer skills are essential for this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience utilizing accounting and financial procedures and systems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Proficiency in using word processing, database, and spreadsheet (EXCEL) software is essential.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to think creatively.
  • Must be detail-oriented and can effectively prioritize and manage multiple complex assignments and projects within specific timelines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal and client relations skills are required.
  • Desire to work within a team-oriented environment is expected.

Preferences:

Experience utilizing accounting and financial procedures and systems in a university setting.
