Job Description

---

The laboratory of Luca Fornelli at the University of Oklahoma is looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on denaturing and native top-down proteomics. This position will be supported through an NIH-funded research grant.

The research in the Fornelli lab (fornellilab.com) is aimed at developing the mass spectrometry technology to advance the field of intact protein analysis, with particular focus on the characterization of large (>30 kDa) proteins.

The new postdoctoral researcher will have the chance to work on the following projects:

  • Integration of native and denaturing mass spectrometry
  • In-depth analysis of biopharmaceuticals
  • High-throughput analysis of proteoforms carrying rare and neglected modifications

Technical and method developments will be applied to biological and biomedical research. Ongoing projects include cancer research and investigation of kidney disease. The postdoctoral researcher will work both on method development and applications, also in collaboration with our technical partners. For that, the new postdoc will have access to state-of-the-art equipment, including an Orbitrap Eclipse Tribrid mass spectrometer. The postdoctoral researcher will oversee all phases of the projects, from experimental design to data analysis.

Additionally, the Fornelli research group will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary scientific environment with collaborators from the medical and basic sciences (from OU and other universities/ private companies). The lab itself includes research space and lab members from two different departments, the Department of Biology and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, offering multiple occasions of collaborations and to validate the newly developed top-down technologies on various applications. The Fornelli lab also works in partnership with the OU Mass Spectrometry, Proteomics and Metabolomics Core Facility, which includes instrumentation for all the “omics” sciences. The lab is located in the OU main campus, which serves over 28,000 students and benefits from the cultural and social opportunities offered by the vibrant city of Norman.

*****Special Instructions: Required documents from interested candidates should submit their CV and the names and contact information of three references via email to luca.fornelli@ou.edu. A cover letter is optional. For more information about the MIRA R35 grant visit this page.*****
