Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Organizational Development Specialist is a key member of the strategic initiatives team and will assist with the development and implementation of two critical campus-wide projects of strategic importance to Facilities Management (FM). The position will develop and execute stakeholder outreach and educational strategies, key messages, and change management of new programs. Duties will include communications support, coalition building with key stakeholder groups, writing, research, presenting/facilitating stakeholder sessions and execution of change management strategy.

This position will primarily be focused on two key projects over the next two years:
  1. The SHared Integrated Facility Technology (SHIFT) project will implement one shared facilities Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS) to advance UMD’s ability to create and care for the campus’ physical environment through efficient and effective integration of people, places, processes and technology in order to improve the student experience and deliver exceptional service to the UMD community.
  2. The NextGen Energy Program (NextGen) is a plan to replace, renew and modernize the University of Maryland, College Park’s aging energy system through a proposed public-private partnership (P3). By modernizing our systems, NextGen aims to drive UMD’s success and support its mission of providing excellent teaching, research and services; advance UMD’s commitment to addressing climate change; and ensure responsible stewardship of our resources, facilities and infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required in Communication, Education, Public Policy, Psychology, Organizational Development, or similar.

Experience:
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience performing work in stakeholder engagement, change/transition management, communications, project management, or equivalent experience. 
  • Experience working with students and student groups.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Ability to analyze problems and present courses of action to management.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholder groups and project teams.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to multi stakeholder teams .
  • Ability to use a computer to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations, respond and send emails and enter and update data in various database systems.
  • Ability to communicate, facilitate, teach and present.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and strategic thinking ability.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong planning and follow-through.
  • Excellent organization skills, database management.
  • Holds strong ethical standards in performance on behalf of the university.
  • Ability to work inclusively with all staff and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Working knowledge of change management research, methods and strategies. 
  • Able to handle sensitive materials with discretion and tact, to present ideas and information clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to independently handle multiple tasks and set priorities.

Experience working in a large complex college/university setting.

Additional Certifications:

Although driving a State Vehicle is not a requirement for this position, travel by foot or vehicle may be required from for meetings, deliveries, etc. across campus. IF driving a State vehicle, incumbent must possess a valid class C Driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than six points.

The hiring salary range is $68,080 – $85,100.

Physical Demands

Incumbent performs duties within an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive to meetings and project sites on/off campus. This position is in the non-essential category. This position may be Telework eligible up to 2 days per week.
