Overview

The Research Technician position will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity. In general, this position will assist in the set up, operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitoring experiments, making observations and calculating and recording results.

Responsibilities

  • A research assistant position is available to join the Hill Laboratory in the Department of Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (https://hilllab.dana-farber.org/). We are looking for an enthusiastic scientist to work on our existing and upcoming projects.

    Our group studies the way ovarian and endometrial cancers respond to therapy and how the entire tumor changes over time, especially with respect to DNA damage repair defects in the tumor cells. We utilize complex ex vivo models of these tumors containing a full complement of tumor and normal cells to understand drug response and tumor evolution in real time. We aim to more fully characterize how evolving DNA damage repair defects in tumors cells change the entire tumor response to different therapies and lead to complex mechanisms of therapy resistance; develop methods to combat this resistance; and utilize our findings to design and implement better treatments in these deadly forms of women’s cancer.

    • Design, conduct, and troubleshoot hypothesis-testing experiments.
    • Maintain detailed and understandable lab notebooks.
    • Interpret and discuss research findings with lab members and the principal investigator.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications

    Accomplished and motivated candidates will have a B.A. in biomedical sciences and those with significant experience in molecular biology and cell biology are encouraged to apply. Technical skills in molecular biology, cell and/or organoid culturing techniques, protein expression, and murine models of cancer are desired but can also be learned.

    Clear thinking and communication skills are absolutely needed. A record of scientific accomplishment as shown by a senior thesis or time in a lab are desired.

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology or chemistry preferred. 
  • Knowledge of information and techniques related to either biology, chemistry, or medicine is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
