Full Job Description

Walker Methodist Place is an established and elegant senior living community offering housing with services and located in a quiet southwest Minneapolis neighborhood.
Walker Methodist Place seeks a Fitness Specialist to implement exercise programs to facilitate strength, balance and fitness for Fitness Center members. In addition to direct supervision of the Fitness Center, the Fitness Technician will be responsible for new member recruitment and the entire new member on-boarding process from initial sign-up, conducting fitness assessments and orientation.

Full-time
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology or equivalent
  • ACSM EP-C certification or obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Current BLS certification
  • Experience evaluating, designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for older adults
  • Working knowledge of exercise contraindications and appropriate exercise techniques to common medical issues such as joint issues, cardio-pulmonary disease and metabolic disease
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment
  • Ability to organize work flow with timely follow-through
  • Commitment to assisting seniors in developing to their fullest potential

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ACSM, NSCA, ACE or NASM certification or equivalent nationally-recognized certification
  • Knowledge of bio-mechanics and postural issues and general knowledge of pharmacology
  • Experience working in a non-profit healthcare environment
  • Experience leading group exercise classes and/or nationally recognized group exercise certifications
