Job Description

Postdoc in Innate Immunity/ Inflammation Biology/ Drug Discovery

Job Summary

A postdoctoral position for studying inflammatory signaling pathways (TLR-, IL17R-families) and developing small molecule inhibitors is available immediately in the Microbiology & Immunology Division, Department of Pathology at the University of Utah. The University of Utah Health was ranked 19th out of 100 top health care institutions worldwide for scientific research by the Nature Index.

Our lab has a long-standing interest in Innate Immunity and Signal Transduction. In previous work we identified and characterized various components of the TLR signaling pathways, and also developed an innovative drug screening platform to identify small molecules with TLR-inhibitory activity using high throughput screening (HTS) (Science Signaling 2018 ; ChemMedChem 2018 ). We are currently extending this HTS approach to other key inflammatory receptors, including the IL-17R family. The focus of this preclinical drug development project is to utilize HTS to identify small molecule hits for exploration of inflammatory signaling pathways and possible starting point for further drug development.

Responsibilities: The project provides an ideal opportunity for fellows who are interested in (i) innate immunity and inflammation, (ii) signal transduction and (iii) drug development. For more information related to the lab, the breadth of resources at the University of Utah and the stunning environment of Salt Lake City/ Utah please see: https://medicine.utah.edu/pathology/research/labs/hans-haecker/

Qualifications and Preferences

Applicants should hold a PhD and/or MD degree in Biochemistry, Biology or Immunology. The ideal candidate should have expertise in cellular and molecular biology, signal transduction and, preferably, protein biochemistry.

Work Schedule Summary Monday – Friday with some occasional evening and weekend work.

Pay Rate Range $54,840 – $57,852

Application: To apply, please send a cover letter as well as CV including publication history and three professional references to Dr. Hans Haecker, Professor at the Microbiology & Immunology Division of the Pathology Department, University of Utah, using the following link: https://utah.peopleadmin.com/postings/144646
