JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

The People Relations Partner Senior Specialist is a hands-on mentor for the ER team in providing the needed employee relations experience necessary to maintain daily employee needs as well as project support as VOALA continues its growth. The Employee Relations Senior Specialist shall be an Employee Relations subject matter expert for the Director. The position requires a combination of administrative/office duties and field/outreach work. This is an individual contributor role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Employee Relations Senior Specialist will provide a hands-on presence by:

  • Mentor the ER Team, be a source of professional advice and assistance.
  • Interacting with employees and managers in assigned programs to assist with questions and policy clarification; makes on-site visits to program sites to provide face-to-face HR availability to employees in the work environment; able to work with program Leadership to resolve employee issues
  • Working with program managers to facilitate recruiting and staffing needs
  • Conducting workplace investigations and fielding employee concerns; maintains own workload and closes cases timely
  • Coaching leaders, managers, and supervisors in policy implementation, performance management, and other HR initiatives; works with programs to implement continuous improvement in employee relations
  • Becoming a key part of positioning the HR department as a strategic partner to continuing program and corporate growth and change.
  • Completes special projects and work efforts timely, including reporting and other legal matters.
  • Identifies opportunities and supports/leads continuous improvement projects
  • Providing training and facilitated workshops in HR Policy, compliance, and best practices in Leadership development
  • Is a mentor and resource for all Human Resource department

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
  • Valid California driver license and access to dependable transportation with adequate insurance

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience (4 years of relevant experience / coursework)
  • Master’s Degree of equivalent combination of education and work experience (2 years of relevant experience/coursework)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum three years of hands-on experience in a HR generalist or HR employee relations position
  • Experience must include a minimum of two years of Employee Relations experience in a large (500+ employees) organization
  • Demonstrated Professional expertise

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of California and Federal employment laws and requirements.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

  • Strong knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Skill with Web-based applications and databases, specifically HRIS and Timekeeping programs

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to maintain balance and objectivity in stressful situations.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and close assigned cases within established timeframes.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Able to work independently
  • Proven ability to conduct workplace investigations and manage employee concerns.
  • Proven experience communicating change initiatives to highly-diverse employee populations; possesses continuous improvement skills
  • Proven ability to conduct presentations in front of small and large groups on a variety of topics (training, benefits, etc.)
  • Systematic and organized approach to projects and day-to-day responsibilities
  • Ability and desire to work with people from various backgrounds and/or limited English capabilities at all levels within an organization – front line staff to senior leaders
  • Ability to develop relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflict, including dealing with un-cooperative employees in a service oriented, second-chance non-profit organization.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, with or without reasonable accommodation, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM – SCP, or SHRM-CP
  • Experience with NOVATime and Ulti-Pro a plus
  • Ability to speak and understand Spanish

Pay: $84,115.39 - $88,542.52 per year
