Job Description

Director of the Network for EdWork

Reports to: The Executive Director of Education

Location: BCLS

Position Closes: Open until filled

Every student can achieve academic success, yet the public education system was not designed to meet students of color where they are, instead they marginalized and underestimated their abilities. TAF partners with school districts, educators, and organizations to challenge the current public education system. We address the entire public education system, from top-to-bottom, providing STEM skills and equitable, anti-racist education environments where all students can succeed and by working with emerging and established education leaders of color to improve representation at every level. We:

  • Co-manage two public STEM schools where we provide industry-relevant, equitable curriculum and experiences
  • Partner with existing schools and coach staff and students to use our successful STEMbyTAF learning model
  • Empower early-career educators and establish school leaders of color through educational equity and liberation pedagogy

Position Overview

The mission of the NWEW is to relentlessly support the sustainability of BIPOC educators by dismantling institutionalized and racist structures and practices within and around us; replacing them with tools and behaviors that help sustain inclusive and equitable schools and learning spaces. The NWEW is comprised of the Martinez Fellowship (a cohort-based program for early career BIPOC teachers) and the Education EnCounter (a program for BIPOC leaders in education) and the Ally Engagement Program (a program to support the development of white leaders that parallels the programming of the Education EnCounter). The Director of the NWEW is responsible for leading the work of TAF’s NWEW.

The Director of the NWEW is charged with the development and expansion of all NWEW programs. This role will ensure that all programs are chronicled and packaged in such a way that they can be scaled throughout Washington State to ensure the retention and development of teachers and leaders of color in Washington State. The Director of the NWEW is the primary driver/program planner for Education EnCounter until such a time it is ready to be led by a program manager.

The Director of the NWEW has the authority to specify actions required and to detail how the NWEW will operate. The Director’s work is accomplished by providing strategic leadership to the NWEW Team, engagement with internal and external stakeholders, and by system development aligned to the achievement of the NWEW’s mission and vision. They serve as the manager of the NWEW and the main link between the program managers and TAF. The Director of the NWEW will manage and evaluate the performance of the Martinez Program Manager, the Ally Engagement Program Manager, and Program Coordinator on an annual basis.
