The Opportunity

The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) in the College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for two instructor or lecturer positions in the Games and Interactive Media program.  These are full-time, nine-month, non-tenure earning appointments.  These positions are anticipated to begin in August 2023.

Each successful candidate will contribute to the Games and Interactive Media mission by teaching upper-division undergraduate courses in game or web programming.  Based on the current workload policy, the teaching load for each position will be four courses per semester. Selected candidates will also be expected to participate in school and university service, including committee work.

The Games and Interactive Media program is a large and growing top 15-ranked game design program (Princeton Review) that can teach games and interactive media courses including, but not limited to, game, web, XR, design and storytelling.  The Games and Interactive Media program is part of the Nicholson School of Communication and Media which has other programs in the areas of Communication, Film and Mass Media, and industry game development within the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA) and is located at UCF Downtown.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master's degree (for an instructor) or a terminal degree (for a lecturer) in an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution by the start of employment.  Candidates who hold a bachelor's degree will be considered only if they can document ten years or more of professional experience within the games and interactive media industry.  Candidates must have some teaching experience, formal or informal (e.g., tutoring, holding workshops, creating tutorial videos, etc.).

Successful applicants will be proficient in one or more of the following, with greater preference given to candidates who are proficient in multiple skills:  HTML, CSS, PhP, MySQL, JavaScript ES6, react, MongoDB, and node.js, Python, R, C#, C++, Unity, or Unreal. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with teaching web or game programming intensive courses or with using web or game programming or scripting software.  Familiarity with online course development and a flexible skill or knowledge set related to games and interactive media is a plus.
